Child marriage limits young girls’ skills, resources, knowledge, social support, mobility and autonomy. Young married girls have little power in relation to their husbands and in-laws. They are therefore extremely vulnerable to domestic violence, abuse and abandonment. Violence may include physical, sexual or psychological abuse.

Remark: The minimum age of marriage is 15 for males, and ‘the age of puberty’ for females. A female between 12 and 15 years old can be married upon approval by the Shari’a District Court. The majority of girls in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in Mindanao marry before they reach 18.

There´s still Early Marriage: Marriage Age: minimum marriage age 15 years for males and puberty for females (female is presumed to have attained puberty at 15 years); Sharia District Court may authorise marriage of female between 12 and 15 years if she has attained puberty.
